Operation Skorpion
The Allied attack, Operation Brevity, had in the end been mostly a failure for the Allies. It did, however, leave them in possession of Halfaya Pass. Rommel decided this critical terrain had to be recaptured in order to stabilize the front and sent a kampfgruppe to accomplish the task. Three panzer battalions led the attack in somewhat of an overkill. The objection was taken, but it cost the Germans much critical fuel to do it and left their panzer forces in even worse shape than they were for the upcoming British attack, Operation Battleaxe.
