Operation Brevity

Operation Brevity was a small scale British offensive designed to act as a springboard for a larger future offensive.  The primary objective was to capture Halfaya Pass and the surrounding area, including Fort Capuzza and Sollum, and also to destroy as much of the Axis forces in the area as possible.  A secondary objective, if everything went really well, was to drive on to link up with Tobruk itself.  The forces involved were drawn mostly from the depleted 7th Armored Division and the 22nd Guards Brigade.  The attack force was split into three battlegroups, each with their own objectives.  They are presented as follows, along with the Axis forces arrayed against them.

            Axis                        Allied

          Italians                         7th Support Group

           Germans                       22nd Guards Brigade
